Last One Before I Go

It's snowing and blowing here! I'm so excited to be leaving in the morning. I just hope there are no problems with the plane. It's gone from raining to freezing rain to snow throughout the afternoon here.

Well, this is the last card before I head out. I tried so hard and this is the best photo I could manage. The colors just seem off to me. That's kiwi kiss, although it looks almost like a putrid green galore on my screen.

I made this last week with Fall To layout #25 and following Sharon's Stamp Simply challenge #71 - A Modern Edge. I think that both the simple layout and fresh, funky colors lend a modern feel to this card.

Just a little last minute packing and then it's early to bed for me. I have to get up at about 3 am to catch my early morning flight. Can you tell how excited I am?!?

What's In It?
Stamps- In the Treetop, Get Well Single (Lizzie Ann)
Paper- chocolate chip, pink passion, kiwi kiss, white (SU!)
Ink- same as above and pretty in pink (SU!)
Accessories- wavy scissors (ProvoCraft), rhinestones (Darice)

Late Mojo

I made this card sometime last week using Julee's Mojo Monday sketch, found here. I'll just leave you with a recipe since it's pretty simple and I'm fairly busy. Trying to find peaks at what's happening at CHA. Did you see Paris Hilton was there? Too funny. There are pics on the Making Memories blog. And getting myself and my house ready to leave for HAWAII later this week. Oh yeah!

By the way, Making Memories is blogcasting everyday from CHA, including giveaways! Woot!

What's In It?
Stamps: Sweet Valentine (Verve Stamps)
Paper: white (PTI); black, sage shadow, riding hood red (SU!); urban prairie ladybug (Basic Grey)
Ink: onyx black (VersaFine); ruby red (SU!)
Accessories: organdy ribbon (SU!); gel pen (Uni-ball); velvet ribbon (Cosmo Cricket Trim-Trimmeree vintage); circle and label one dies (Spellbinders); bloom dots embossing folder (Cuttlebug); icons (MAMBI)

Card Tote Template

I was asked for some measurements on the Love Match card box I posted earlier, so I decided to give them a try on Photoshop. I've included a template that hopefully you can print, cut and score. (Although the measurements will show on the inside. I'm still learning.) If that doesn't work (since this is a first try for me) I've included all the measurements.

My box holds 24 double layered cards with a little room to spare. Cut on the solid lines, score on the dotted lines. I also used a tag corner punch on all my exposed corners to make it easier to fit everything together. Enjoy!

And I'd love to see anything you might make with this template. Just drop me a comment or email. Let me know if this was helpful for any of you, so I can decide whether to give something like this another try in the future.
ETA: This isn't really working. You can't click on it. Don't know why. I'll try to figure it out. If you want to give the box a try on your own in the meantime, the measurements are 2-1/8 wide by 3-1/8 tall by 3/4" deep. Hopefully I can get something working soon.

Two Friends, Two Cards

Sometimes I really like simple. Today, I can't decide. In person, I think I like the plain card. On my computer screen, I think I like the one with the teapot. I couldn't decide, so I'll share both versions of the same card with you. Hopefully you'll like at least one of them.
Design Details:

The teapot and cups are colored with inks, markers, and a water brush on Strathmore water color paper.

For the sentiment, I inked the actual metal die with ink before cutting and embossing. It acts like a stamp and I ended up with the pink rimmed tag you see. You need to use a slower drying ink, such as a pigment, chalk or hybrid ink. I used VersaMagic. Then I just rinsed the die off with water. I've seen so many of the Spellbinders' team doing this during the recent release that I just had to give it a try. And I love it!

What's In It?
Stamps- Tea Time (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Cardstock- white (Papertrey Ink); watercolor (Strathmore); pink pirouette, rose red (SU!)
Pattern Paper- bittersweet: hand-dipped and truffle (Basic Grey)
Ink- onyx black (VersaFine); pixie dust (VersaMagic); pretty in pink, old olive, brocade blue, rose red, close to cocoa (SU!)
Accessories- circle punches; rectangle and circle nesties, ribbon tag trio dies (Spellbinders); silver gelly roll pen (Sakura); ribbon (Michael's); foam adhesive dots; sewing machine and thread

The Friday Funny (1/23/09)

A little guy is sitting at the bar just staring at his drink for half an hour when this big trouble-making biker steps next to him, grabs his drink, gulps it down in one swig and then turns to the guy with a menacing stare as if to say, 'What'cha gonna do about it?'

The poor little guy starts crying.

'Come on man I was just giving you a hard time,' the biker says. 'I didn't think you'd CRY.' 'I can't stand to see a man crying.

“This is the worst day of my life,” says the little guy between sobs. “I can't do anything right.”

“I overslept and was late to an important meeting, so my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car was stolen and I don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife in bed with the gardener and my dog bit me. So I came to this bar trying to work up the courage to put an end to my life, and then you show up and drink the d*mn poison."

Love Match

This is for the project parade going on now at the Verve Stamps blog. Head on over for more inspiration and your chance to play along and win. The theme is A Kid At Heart, so I made this Love Match Memory Game.

I used to love sprawling out on the living room floor in the evening to play memory. I still remember some of the little animal characters that were hiding under those neatly lined up rows of red cards. But mostly I remember how happy I was spending time with my mom, and how accomplished I felt with each pair of matching cards that turned over.

For this set, the cards are two inches by three inches with a keepsake carrying box to match. Each card has the same basic gray/basic black back side. The fronts are either three small hearts, one large heart, or a sentiment in a mix of colors. If you decide to make a set of your own, be sure you have an two of each card so they match up during the game.
"Love Match" is computer generated. All other images come from the Hundred Hearts stamp set.
What's In It?
Stamps: Hundred Hearts (Verve Stamps)
Paper: positively pink, tempting turquoise (Stampin' Up!); white (Georgia Pacific); urban prairie (Basic Grey)
Ink: onyx black (VersaFine); basic gray, celery, apricot, pixie pink, turquoise, lavender (SU!)
Accessories: gemstones (Darice); scallop scissors (ProvoCraft); celery grosgrain, ticket corner punch (SU!); corner rounder (EK Success)

Life's Comforts

Hot chocolate, a comfy bed on a rainy morning, sweatpants, a hug...those are a few of my life's greatest comforts. How about you? This card just had me thinking about that, seeing as how the sentiment reads "Wishing you life's greatest comforts".

These are a couple of my cherished Urban Prairie papers again, paired with the Comfort Plain Jane by Verve Stamps.

Design Details:

Cover Basic Grey's undressed chipboard elements with Urbain Prairie paper, then poke two holes through chipboard and sentiment panel to attach with brads.

Draw the butterfly trail very lightly with a pencil. (It took me a couple of tries to be happy with my trail.) After drawing the dotted trail with a marker, erase the pencil lines. Run black marker along edges of butterfly to make it stand out better.

What's In It?
Stamps: Comfort Plain Jane (Verve Stamps)
Paper: cool caribbean, basic black, kiwi kiss (Stampin' Up!); white (Papertrey Ink); Urban Prairie (Basic Grey)
Ink: onyx black (VersaFine); basic black marker (Stampin' Up!)
Accessories: butterfly punch (Martha Stewart); corner rounder (EK Success); flowers (Primas); chipboard elements (Basic Grey); black licorice brads (Lasting Impressions); black diamond stickles (Ranger); square nestabilities dies (Spellbinders); dimensionals

The project parade starts today on the Verve Stamps blog. Be sure to check it out so you have plenty of time to play along. And there'll be lots of eye candy for the next several days as the designers feature a new project each day with the theme "A Kid At Heart". I'll be sharing my project on Thursday, and I really think you're going to want to see it. At least I think it's a really cute idea.

Speaking of Tea

Speaking of tea, I've been drinking A LOT of it through this miserable cold spell we've been having. I cannot seem to keep myself warm. It's like I'm cold from the inside out. So, yeah, I've been drinking a lot of hot tea, with honey. Mmmmmm.
Design Details- I popped up the yellow cup and punched a hole with my cropodile in the flower to pull the ribbon through.

What's In It?
Stamps- Tea Time (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Paper- white, baja breeze, riding hood red, chocolate chip, Basic Grey's Offbeat
Ink: Palette Noir, aegean blue VersaMagic
Accessories- Copics, nesties, circle punches, kiwi kiss stiped grosgrain, Heidi Swapp flower ghost shape, foam dot, Cropodile

And the Friday Funny (1-16-09)

Young Chuck moved to Montana and bought a horse from a farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day. The next Day he drove up and said, "Sorry, Son, but I have some bad news, The horse died."

Chuck replied, "Well, then just give me my money back."

The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."

Chuck said, "Ok, then, just bring me the dead horse."

The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"

Chuck said, "I'm going to raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead horse!"

Chuck said, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead."

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, "What happened With that dead horse?"

Chuck said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a Piece and made a net profit of $898.00."

The farmer said, "Didn't anyone complain?"

Chuck said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back."

Urban Planning?

This is my favorite of the cards I made with Verve's newest stamps. I like the bright colors, simple design, and of course the Label 1 die cuts.

To get the multi-colored sentiment, ink the entire stamp with basic gray. Wipe away the words you want to highlight with a water brush and paper towel. Re-ink with markers or carefully with an ink pad as I did for the kiwi kiss "plans". Huff (breathe warm, moist air) on the entire stamp to re-moisten the ink, and stamp.

After die cutting the white layer, I left the die in place while sponging with So Saffron ink.

The ribbon loop is pulled up through the slot, folded over, and secured with a brad.

What's In It?
Stamps: Jeremiah 29:11 (Verve)
Paper: white, pixie pink, baja breeze, basic gray (Stampin' Up!); urban prairie patchwork quilt (Basic Grey)
Ink: pixie pink, kiwi kiss, tempting turquoise, basic gray, so saffron (Stampin' Up!)
Accessories: sponge; dimensionals; Label 1 dies (Spellbinders); kiwi kiss striped grosgrain ribbon (Stampin' Up!); paper and ribbon slot punching tool (Making Memories); black licorice brad (Lasting Impressions); swiss dots embossing folder (Cuttlebug)

A Card and stuff

The computer is all set up and ready to go. It took a few hours, but there were no real headaches. Yay! Now I can use my comfy desktop for photo editing and whatnot rather than running downstairs to the laptop every time. (The old desktop was quite old and slow and couldn't handle any more programs.)

So today, coming to you from my actual stamp room/office, is today's blog post, featuring Verve Stamps newly released Meditations. I stamped the sentiment with a mix of spanish olive and oasis green VersaMagic ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. I mixed in a red mat under that layer to tie in the other red/pink accents. The flowers were stamped the same way, then colored with oasis green on a blender pen. I added a couple of stamped flowers to tie in the background paper (Basic Grey's Perhaps).

What's In It?
Stamps: Meditations (Verve)
Paper: white (Papertrey Ink); old olive (Stampin' Up!); Blue Moss (Core'dinations); Perhaps (Basic Grey)
Ink: spanish olive, oasis green, red magic (VersaMagic)
Accessories: clear embossing powder, blender pen (SU!); ribbon (American Crafts); lime green Stickles; Prima flowers; dimensionals

ETA: I forgot that I used one of Jen's Sketches, seen here.
FYI: You may have noticed that I added a "Follow this Blog" widget (is that the right term?) to my sidebar for any who would like to use that method of keeping up with what I've been doing.

Also, thank you so much to Maria for giving me the One Lovely Blog Award. Stop by to check out her own lovely blog as well as these recommendations:

Rules of this award:
1. Add the logo to your blog.
2. Link to the person from whom you received this award.

Says Who?

Says Pooh! Did you know Winnie the Pooh had such good quotes? Apparently Julee knew when she made this Hundred Hearts stamp set, because she included this totally cute saying: "Keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever, " by none other than the tubby little cubby himself.

I paired it with three of the solid heart stamps, clear embossed onto different colors of paper, and the double row of background hearts. I adhered them to my blog in a curved line to get this nice edge for my pink paper. The gold outline on my vellum was done with a Zig Painty. And I added a few bits of Star Dust Stickle to the rows of hearts.

What's In It?
Stamps: Hundred Hearts (Verve Stamps)
Paper: white, kiwi kiss, bravo burgundy, pretty in pink (Stampin' Up!); Perhaps (Basic Grey)
Ink: bravo burgundy (SU!); Versamark
Accessories: clear embossing powder, brads (SU!); star dust Stickles; Zig Painty

Today will be spent setting up my new computer with hopefully minimal banging of my forehead on my desk. Wish me luck.

Send Some Love

This was my card for one of last week's Verve Stamps previews, and I just thought I'd share it here for you too. The stamps are now available on the Verve site (link above), and Julee even has some good deals going on with the brand new releases. How often do you see BRAND NEW product on sale?

I used Hearts on Fire, paper piecing the smaller heart with some Perhaps by Basic Grey.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Please know how much I appreciate your visits.

What's In It?
Stamps: Hearts on Fire (Verve Stamps)
Paper: white (Papertrey Ink); purely pomegranate, sahara sand, black (Stampin' Up!); Perhaps (Basic Grey)
Ink: noir black (Palette)
Accessories: corner rounder (EK Success); ribbon (American Crafts); decorative pin (Heidi Grace); black diamond Stickles; dimensionals

Love Bites!

I'm so excited to get a little extra stamping time for this cute Our Craft Lounge Pat the Dog! I cannot tell you how much I love the coloring cheat sheet. I referred to it about 20 times while coloring this one card. I used Jen's Sketch For You To Try and some Urban Prairie paper. Excuse me! Where have I been?!? I saw this a year ago when it was released, and I just bought it a week ago. And I can't put it down! So you'll be seeing it quite a few times here. If you're wondering, these are the larger patterns because I bought 12 x 12 sheets, not the 6x6 pad.

What's In It?
Stamps- Pat the Dog (Our Craft Lounge)
Paper- soft sky, basic black (SU!); urban prairie (Basic Grey)
Ink- noir black (Palette)
Accessories- Copic markers; urban prairie buttons (BG); glue dots; thread; millennium pen

There's another post for today, so be sure to scroll down so you don't miss it.

Viva La Verve!

That's the name of the new Verve challenges that started last week in the Verve forum on Splitcoast, and I just love it. It sounds so fun to me. I can't even think it without a cheesy Elvis snarl and accent. Anyway, every Friday Amber posts a new sketch with a twist. This week requires a twist of bling. Here's the challenge thread. And there's a prize involved!

I used a couple of new EP
goodies (Birds and
Swirls folder, My Mind's Eye paper) with the Verve set, Hearts on Fire (available today). And my bit of bling is the three rhinestones under the sentiment. They were clear, but I colored them with Copic marker R59. I just love doing that. One embellishment with limitless possibilities.

What's In It?
Stamps- hearts on fire (Verve Stamps)
Paper- white (PTI and Georgia Pacific); choc chip(SU); irresistible love dots (MME)
Ink- choc chip, ruby red (SU); Copic R59
Accessories- ribbon (American Crafts); rectangle nesties; icons (MAMBI); birds and swirls folder (CB); dimensionals

The Friday Funny 1/9/09

Just yesterday, I was thinking about reinstating the Friday Funny. Then today somebody actually asked about it. So, I'll try to come up with something every week, starting today. Because we all need a good laugh. Hope you enjoy this weekly installment. Disclaimer: Please don't take any of these literally. I don't assume them to be true stories, and I don't research them. They're just for fun. So here ya go:

FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY

In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter & Passover holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, Jews & observances of their holy days. The argument was it was unfair that atheists had no such recognizedday.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed."

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter & others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur & Hanukkah. Yet my client & all other atheists have no such holidays."

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do, counsel, your client is woefully ignorant." The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is 'April Fools Day.' Psalm14:1 states 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned."

Simply Sweet

I'm trying to get this ready before heading to bed again, so I'll be brief. I had a great time with everyone at the Lizzie Anne forums last night for the release party. Have you checked out all of the new stamps? Which do you just LOVE?

And tonight is another release party for me. Verve Stamps will be partying at the Splitcoast Forum here tonight at 8 pm Eastern time, 5 pm Pacific. Hope you can stop by and say "Hi".

Today I have a quick card for you with one of tonight's releases, Sweet Valentine. I used this sketch from the Clean & Simple blog. Colored with Copics R43, RV42 and RV29. I also used the darkest of those Copics to color matching rhinestones beside my sentiment.

Hope you're all having a fab Friday!

What's In It?

Ink- purely pomegranate (SU!); vintage photo distress ink (Ranger)

PEEK, PEEK, PEEK

Yes, that title is for yesterday's anonymous commenter who was so disturbed by my spelling faux pas. LOL. Really, sometimes I type these posts up quickly before heading to bed with my mind half on something else. So, sorry for any mistakes.

But, seriously, I do have another PEEK with Lizzie Anne's upcoming Simply Single, With Sympathy. When you're done here, stop by the LAD blog for previews of the full sets, links to more samples, and blog candy. Yum!

The purple Primas were colored with a Copic marker, and the die cuts were sponged with perfect plum and sage shadow inks. Sketch courtesy of Julee's new Mojo Monday Blog. And I want to point out the gorgeous velvet scalloped ribbon, just cause I love it. Thanks for stopping by.

More Lizzie Anne Peaks

That's right, I've got TWO Lizzie Anne peaks for you today. Don't forget to stop by the blog for all of the set previews and a list of design team samples. This uses Tutti Fruity (what a cute name!) and some chalk inks on kraft paper. Is that not fun?!? I applied three colors of Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink directly to the rubber stamp before stamping, as well as a chocolate chip marker for the stems. One was cut out and popped up for dimension. And a couple of those fab papers are from the French Floral Pretty Paper pack. The ruby red has the pear stamped randomly with white VersaMagic.

Stamps-
Tutti Fruity (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Paper- french floral pretty papers (LAD); kraft, ruby red (SU!)
Ink- choclate chip (SU!); white (VersaMagic); yellow citrus, lime pastel, lipstick red (Colorbox)
Accesories- slot punch (SU!); ribbon (American Crafts); brads (Lasting Impressions); Label 1 die (Spellbinders)
And here's a card for the upcoming release, In the Nursery.

Tea Time with Lizzie Anne

Today starts the sneak peaks and previews of Lizzie Anne Designs' newest stamp releases! You can see a peek right here each day, as well as all of the official previews on the Lizzie Anne blog. That will also let you know what other designers have samples to whet your appetite. They'll be available for purchase starting Friday, January 9th.

I hate to say it again, but this is my FAVORITE release so far. And in fact, this is my favorite set. The handles and spouts are separate from the main tea pot, so you can mix and match patterns to be as funky as you like! I went with the polka dotted pot and the plain handles here. I also added the heart of "steam". The image is stamped on water color paper and colored with Stampin' Up! markers and a water brush. The "ground" I sketch in with a Millennium pen. And check out that darling little sentiment, one of many fun additions in this set.

As always, shoot me an email if you have any questions. Thanks for dropping by.

What's In It?
Stamps- Tea Time (Lizzie Anne Designs)
Paper- barely banana, bashful blue, black, Cutie Pie (SU!); water color (Strathmore)
Ink- black Versafine, SU markers
Accessories- ribbon (michael's); acetate; fibers (SU!); hello kitty flower bouquet die (Sizzix); sequin and brad (Queen & Co. Kissy Fit); Glaze pen (Sakura); water brush; ribbon slot punch (Making Memories)

I'm Baack!

I'm so sorry. I can't believe it has been a full week since I talked to you all last. I have been stamping though, really. I have TWO releases this week. One for Verve Friday night, and one for Lizzie Anne Thursday night. The Verve sneak peeks have already started today on the Verve blog and the Lizzie Anne previews start tomorrow on the LAD blog (and right here). So there's lots going on. AND my friends and I have been working on making 75 of these baby shower invites for a friend!

I tried to keep the design fairly simple since we had so many to make. The theme is a Mad Hatter Tea Party, and one of my friend's requested this prego lady. (That's why I was looking for her a little while ago. Thanks!) I also used some of the tea cups from a retired SU! set, Espress Yourself. Some dots, some piercing, some Copics and TahDah!

You should be hearing from me lots this week. I have plenty to show you!
